Step1: Assess what you want to do

You may already have an idea for your business, but if you don’t know yet what you want to do, here are some ways you can take on how to decide on what you want to do. So you can start with:

  • DO  WHAT YOU LOVE:
What are the things that you’re most passionate about doing? This is the best way you can monetize your hobby into a full-fledged business where you sell things online.

    Example: Gardening

Gardening is a fun hobby that can make you happier, healthier, and perhaps even wealthier. It’s essential to know what you’re passionate about so you can identify the one thing that drives you to get up from bed each morning motivated and energized about what you would do in this life.

  • USE YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENT

Think about your past experiences, your previous jobs, or if you are currently employed.  What are your greatest accomplishments in life so far?  Or the things in your life you’re most proud of?

Example: If your child grew up to be a gold medalist in swimming or in singing because of your teachings, then be a coach or mentor for other kids.

How did those accomplishments make you feel? Happy and proud, right? So why not reproduce those experiences and feelings?

  • SOLVE A PROBLEM
You can also think of ways to make people’s lives easier or help them solve a problem. As long as consumers have problems, they will always search for solutions.  If you have been able to identify a painful problem that you can effectively solve? Deliver the solution to the market, you will be able to create a real business that matters.

Example:  If you know how to package convenience healthy meals to save time, then you can help those busy working people to pack healthy lunches for their workweek – Presto — you already have a solution that matters!

The painful problem you can solve, the more profitable business you can make.

Step2: Find your market to validate your idea

Once you have an idea of what you want to do, you need customers who are willing to pay you for that idea. You can start testing your ideas into a small group of people. Because it is important to see if there is a demand for what you want to offer.

I want you to take the time to do these exercises in creating your ideal client. Here are some simple steps:

  • Find out the profile of your ideal customer.
  • Give your customer avatar a name.
  • Find out where do they hang out and if they use Facebook, determine which posts or articles they read.
  • Write down the occupation, gender, age, marital status, location, and social background.

Social background means the kind of education they have had or the type of experiences they have, or do they have children, renting or owning a house?

With this information, you can tailor your message to their interest.

Also, make sure that they are the ones making a decision to make a purchase.

Step3: Determine if your idea address their concern in life

Describe exactly what does your offer helps your ideal clients want to achieve. You can ask people whose profiles correspond to your ideal client about their needs and expectations.

Either you can conduct a survey using tools like GetResponse or do face-to-face or through social media page. Their answers will help determine if they are ready to buy what you have to offer and help you estimate the price they are willing to pay.

This information will help you to estimate the income you can make with your business.

Step4: Mapping your transition

If you are currently employed working for someone else, you need to plan your transition to becoming your own boss.

Make sure that you are mentally and financially ready and be able to leave. when this project brings immediate cash flow.  Do not risk your current employment without mapping your transition and until you begin to generate your own passive income streams.

You can either start this project part-time and make your slow transition while you launch your business or do this full-time to the role of the business owner and quit your job.

You need to be realistic about when you can expect income.

Step5: Evaluate your finances

It is essential to evaluate your finances before you put yourself in a position to be successful in becoming your own boss. Calculate your current net worth, personal expenses, such as rent, gas, groceries, and utilities.

If you fund a business yourself, you will be forced to live within your means, only investing in business tools, training, and marketing when you need to. This can help you to prioritize your business expenditure and avoid excessive spending.

Knowing where you financially give you much more control of evaluating the amount of money necessary to launch your business as well as how much money you need to make to sustain your business each month.
